The following is a list of family news and recent major changes to this web site, with the most recent shown first:
April, 2002
This will be a big year for change to the family history site. Many advanced features have been added since the inception of the Perry/Hupp Family History web site over five years ago. The biggest change will be the first update to the database since march, 1998:
Added discussion lists for the major family surnames included in my family history files. These are specific for the descendants of these grandfathers from the 1700's. If you have used the RootsWeb surname discussion lists in the past and have found them to be a good resource for family history research; you will appreciate our family history discussion lists. As much as I enjoy the RootsWeb lists I have also found that I get inundated with so much email that is unrelated to what I am working on that I eventually quit reading the 50+ emails I receive a day. I know I must have missed that important post I was looking for on my most elusive ancestor. Please visit and subscribe or just view the archives.
The first update of the family history database since 1998 !!
I have uploaded my complete family history file to the members area. It contains 15,937 individuals, 5,732 families. The file is now 73 Mb and contains over 16,000 html pages. I never expected when I started this process that the file would ever get this large. We have one heck of a lot of cousins out there. The changes will be dramatic so please go visit. If your lines isn't included or there are errors, please send me your information for inclusion (or send corrections). In the future I plan to make available family history books in PDF format for download.
March, 2002
The family datafiles require the user to register before viewing. It is a simple process which requires a valid email address and asks which surnames you are researching. I hope to update the files this year with the current research and plan to make available family history books in PDF format. You will be able to read these on your own computer and print them out. A small charge will be necessary to download the each book. If you register for database access you will be notified when the database is updated and when the books become available. Please be sure to register to receive notification.
I added a feature for you to recommend links to your related family history website or links to related surname websites for the links area. If have or know about a related surname website, please go to the add Links page in the Family Surnames category and click on Add your Link.
Coming soon, I hope, will be discussion lists that we can use for the main family heads included in the family files.

Moved all family history files and website to a dedicated home computer server and DSL line. All websites are now being served on a Mac G4 running OS X with lots of hard disk space. The DSL bandwidth should serve us well for a while.

I have become an Amazon.com associate and have included links to Amazon.com from my family history pages. Amazon.com is an Internet discount bookseller. I have also added a Genealogy Books page that I plan to include books that will be helpful to those researching in the same area and families as myself. I have done this for a couple of reasons. I believe Amazon.com is an excellent company to purchase genealogy books from and their prices are quite reasonable when compared to the many other places we must purchase books for use in our genealogy research.

Updated the family history database with an additional 2,025 individuals. Many new families and descendants have been added in almost every line. Lots of new PERRY families and a new line of PERRY descendants.
A major new piece of information was acquired this year: 'The Ballard Perry Family History' written about 1900. This document shed new light on a number of children identified by many genealogical annotations and researchers as descendants of Arnold Perry born 1784. This new history clearly pointed out that Arnold Perry had a sister named Elizabeth Perry. She lived in Floyd Co., KY at the same time as Arnold. The children identified as Arnold's born before marriage in 1816 to Polly Ratliff were the children of his sister Elizabeth Perry. Many thanks to Zane Perry, descendant of Nathaniel Perry, and Karen (Cobb) Anderson, a descendant of Abraham Perry, for providing copies of this important piece of family history. The text of it is included in my database in the notes for Ballard Perry.
Also many thanks to Mr. Paul Dyer who has written a number of family history books on the Maynard and Dyer families of Wayne Co., VA/WV. He graciously provided me copies of his books and access to his library of genealogy books. Paul also has given me a copy of his unpublished manuscript of the 'Perry Family of Wayne Co., WV.' it has many wonderful family notes. I have not yet loaded all of this wonderful information but with time it will make future uploads.
Thanks again Zane, Paul and Karen and all my other sharing cousins that have provided me family history! - Jack

Also added were additional Athy/Athey and Nelson family histories. Please visit the new database and give me your descendant info for a future update.

The 48th annual John Q. Perry, Sr. family reunion was held in Lowell, OH at Buell Park on the island on the Muskingham River. A great time was had by all who attended. The brief rain cooled the warm humid air and made for a wonderful egg toss. Even the adults enjoyed this event with the giant eggs at the end provided by Randall Perry, our local on-site CPA. I won the prize for traveling the farthest to attend from Louisville, KY. As you can see we all have stayed close to home. The annual auction was the biggest ever held with the watercolor prints of local history by Rita Perry bringing the greatest excitement, I didn't get one. A highlight of the trip was my visit with with my Great Aunt Lulu, sister of John Q. Perry, She is 97 years young. She is a wonderful and very bright person. Her cousin Malissa Perry is 98 and living in Arizona. The pictures she gave me had pictures of Lulu and Malissa as young women, Wow, a couple of lookers! She provided me with lots of additional family pictures including one of Rebecca Marcum and her sister Mary Marcum.
Don't forget the 80 plus year Perry/Maynard family reunion to be held the second Sunday in September at CabWayLingo State Forest park in Wayne County, W.Va. I hope to attend with my brother and his family, see you there.

Added my full family database of over 3,700 names from western WV/VA and southern Ohio. Many thanks to Gene Stark for the use of the GENDEX server and the low cost service he provides for us to do genealogical research. Without his service, he charges us $2.00 per year per megabyte, I would not have a home for my database. It takes 22 megabytes.
